Make February 14th your goal for clearing out those old papers!
Organizing solutions for your paper are needed now!
Ah, tax season. The time of year when we are all mandated to examine our paper and take a good hard look at our filing systems, along with how we have used and retained our paper in the previous year.
For those with clearly established paper retention/shredding guidelines, congratulations! You can sleep soundly tonight with the knowledge that you are both an upstanding citizen in the eyes of the Federal Government, and secure from identity theft.
For the rest of us, there is no better time to start than now. Here are several ways in which you can take control of your paper:
- “GO” Organization Tips: Handling Piles of Papers
- Organizing The Household Paper Trail: Tip #1

- Organizing The Household Paper Trail: Tip #4
We recommend gathering piles together into one place and working through your pile, piece by piece. Be sure to have a recycle bin nearby and a box for shredding.
Let your paper talk to you. Does it require an action? Can you find it online? Try to focus on keeping only paper that you need to refer to, keep for legal reasons, or need to act upon.
Shredding old documents and recycling unneeded paper will drastically improve your experience as you prepare to submit your taxes, in addition to making you feel more organized and streamlined in both your home and office.
