Let me begin by stating that, whatever anyone has to say about this product, its sheer sexiness is incontestable. All those gorgeous, bold colors hanging on the wall or in your work tote just scream ‘organized.’
And while it’s true that sexiness is not a prerequisite to function, the Cascading Wall Organizer from Smead does manage to be both beautiful and functional.
Over the past year, I have tried and rejected a number of tote-able filing systems to contain files that move between home and the office with me, since I often need them in both places. Most of these involved an accordion file that had pockets designed for papers to go directly into, but were too narrow for a manila file.
Not so with this office organizer. I can put my manila folders directly into the pockets (so far I’ve managed to get about 7 into one pocket), hang it into the wall when I get to the office and collapse it right down into it’s A-4 size again when I’m ready to head out. Magical.
Pros: Saves desk space by allowing you to hang files on the wall (I have a Command Hook on the wall at home and the office reserved just for this). It’s also lightweight, super easy to collapse, and has a handy elastic cord to keep it from opening up in your bag. The pockets can also be removed if you only want to grab one of them, which is handy. Plus, it just looks so dang pretty.
Cons: it’s not terribly easy to put the pockets back into the frame once you remove one, since the tabs that hold it in place are rather flimsy. Definitely not a deal-breaker in my opinion, but something to keep in mind.
I chose to label each individual pocket on mine, which adds an extra “Oooooo” effect whenever anyone sees it. Plus, it helps me to find what I need in a pinch.
Thanks, Smead, for coming up with a winner that keeps my office organized!
