This year, in honor of all of the wonderful mothers (and fathers!) out there, we asked our team of professional organizers at Organizers Northwest to weigh in on their favorite mother’s day gifts to give and receive. The caveat? They have to be items that don’t cause clutter! Here are our favorites:
A Fun Event
“I lost my mother to a heart attack in the Fall of 2009. My childhood friend Angie was well aware of how close I was to my mom and how my first Mother’s Day without her would be a challenge. She remembered how much my mom loved to watch the birds in her yard. In memory of her, my friend Angie presented me with a bird feeder for my backyard.
She also invited me to a concert in her hometown of Seattle, completely sacrificing her own pampering on Mother’s Day, all for me, knowing I needed the distraction from more traditional activities that I always enjoyed with my mom. It was one of the most considerate and loving things I have ever experienced.”

One-on-one Time
“According to my mum, any gift involving quality mother/daughter time – like going to get pedicures together, a perennial favorite for us – is a winner!”

A Framed Photo
“I received a framed picture of my two boys with them holding the sonogram pic of my daughter before she was born. It was so sweet, plus it hangs on the wall using vertical space – no clutter to be seen!”

Help in My Garden
“My favorite Mother’s Day fantasy would be all 3 boys showing up with enthusiasm to organize and plant all the annuals in my pots and beds with me. It would be sunny and we would have music playing. I have tried to make this happen at times, but their efforts are mired in their disdain for yardwork! I have since engaged them in activities that are mutually enjoyable – disc golf (I am horrid) or executive golf, ending in a fun brew pub. I just love time together with the people who make my heart sing!”

A Lunch Date
“Taking mom out for lunch is a great gift – that way she doesn’t have to cook or clean up!”
